What are the means for rental providers to ask for extra bonds?

To cover the cost of reversing alterations at the conclusion of the rental agreement, the rental provider may ask the renter to pay an additional bond.

However, they cannot demand for an extra

  • The additional bond would not exceed $500.

  • The additional bond is unreasonable if

  • in comparison to the price of reversing the changes

  • The rental provider does not want the modifications undone when the renter vacates.

  • The NDIS, for example, requires that the rented home not need to be restored in order for the alterations to be paid.
